Novel Coronavirus to Become Deadlier than SARS, Death Toll Touches 722 in China

New Delhi: The number of deaths from novel coronavirus outbreak has touched 722 in China on Saturday, poising to become deadlier than the SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) epidemic on the mainland and Hong Kong two decades ago.

The total number of infections across China from coronavirus has now reached 34,546.

China’s National Health Commission on Saturday said that they received reports of 3,399 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 86 deaths Friday from 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, according to media reports.

The death toll in mainland China is poised to pass the 774 deaths recorded globally during the 2002-2003 pandemic of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), another coronavirus that jumped from animals to humans in China.
