New York: Accusing the WHO of failing to China to account over the COVID-19 pandemic, the US President Donald Trump said that his country will cut ties with the World Health Organization.
In a press conference on Friday, President Trump said that China has total control over the WHO.
“We have detailed to them the reforms that they must make and engaged with them directly but they have refused to act,” he said.
Trump further said that the funding of the WHO would now be diverted to other global public health organisations.
He announced a series of decisions against China including issuing proclamation to deny entry to certain Chinese nationals and tightening of regulations against Chienese investments in the US.
The US is the biggest single contributor to the WHO, contributing over $400m in 2019, according to reports.
