Puri: 5T Secretary VK Pandian has expressed his displeasure over the uncleanliness inside the premises of the Puri Jagannath temple.
Pandian, who paid a visit to the 12th century shrine on Saturday to offer prayers to the Trinity, noticed paan (betel leaf) spitting on one of the gates of the temple.
Displeased with the dirtiness, the 5T Secretary went to the branch office inside the temple premise and enquired about the sanitation measures. As per sources, Pandian volunteered to clean the dirty place himself.
Giving a strong message, the 5T Secretary said he would personally clean the pan trash without telling others in future.
Notably, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has already imposed a ban on chewing of paan (betel) and tobacco products like gutkha inside the temple since August 1 last year.
The ban order is applicable for everybody entering the temple including the sebayats (servitors) and SJTA staff members as well as the devotees. Violators are fined up to Rs 500.
