Bhubaneswar: As many as 970 persons lost their lives due to drowning in Odisha in the last three years.
It has been informed by Tusharkanti Behera, Minister of State (MoS) for Home, in the State Legislative Assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question, the Minister said that a total of 1615 persons had drowned in rivers in the State during the last three years and out of them 613 were rescued while 970 had died.
As a precautionary measure, the required number of Fire Service and Emergency personnel are deployed at dangerous points on river banks during festivals, he added.
