Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested an accountant at the office of Block Education Officer (BEO) in Rajkanika, Kendrapara district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a Self-Help Group (SHG).
The accountant has been identified as Md. Firoz Khan.
Khan had demanded the bribe for passing a bill of Rs. 1.93 lakhs and releasing the balance amount to the SHG that supplied school uniforms to local schools.
The bribe money was recovered, and searches are ongoing at locations linked to the accused. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are in progress, according to the Vigilance.
