No Compulsory Pass Criteria for +2 First Year Students This Academic Session: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: In a relief to the students, Odisha School and Mass Education Department will not implement the compulsory pass criteria for +2 first year students this academic session.

The compulsory pass criteria for +2 first year students will be implemented from the next academic session, said School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash here today.

The State Government had no intention to detain any student in Plus II first year, the Minister said.

Talking to the media, Dash said, “In fact, the intention behind making the compulsory pass criteria is to make the students more sincere about their first-year courses. Since most students skip classes in the first year and are promoted to the second year without having the fundamental knowledge about the subjects, they perform poorly in the annual Plus II second-year examination”.

He further said that there will be no change in the examination pattern this year.

The aggregate marks of the students will be sent to the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) from the next year, he added.

Earlier, the Department’s decision making students to secure minimum 33 per cent marks in Plus 2 first year compulsory to appear annual +2 examination was strongly objected by the students from various colleges across the State.
