Goa’s talent shouldn’t go ‘out’: CM Sawant

Panaji : We have got good ‘talent’ here, but it should not go outside (in search of opportunities), it should be used for growth of the state, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday here.

“On one side we have 67 per cent of forest cover, while on other side we have CRZ. We need to take ahead sustainable development by protecting our forest and other things. We need development and industries to create jobs. Be it Information and Technology sector, Hospitality, Electronic manufacturing or other, all such ventures are welcome,” Sawant said.

He said that there are many opportunities for people of Goa to become ‘Swayampurn’ in all sectors and one should think positively on it as this is the right time. “We procure fruits, flowers, milk, chicken, mutton and many essential things from other states. People can venture into these businesses and earn, so we don’t become dependent on our neighbouring states ” He said.

“After the liberation, we are completing 60 years. We used to import very less before 1987, now we are importing additionally, maybe because of tourism (demand). If we continue to import from others, then when we will become swayampurn?” Sawant questioned.

He said that a few years ago, Goa ranked at 7 for sustainable development, but last year, the state reached number 4. “Now it is my aim to achieve second place this year,” Sawant further said.
