Odisha: Excise Dept Registers 454 NDPS Cases in First Quarter of 2022-23 Fiscal

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Excise Department has registered 454 cases under NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) during the first quarter of the current fiscal.

As many as 522 persons were arrested in the first quarter of 2022-23 compared to 129 cases and 152 arrests during the same quarter in the previous financial year.

Further 3540 grams of heroin seized this year against 1557.5 grams last year, according to the Excise Department.
Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Singh has appreciated the performance and achievement of excise officers during the first quarter of the financial year.

He instructed all officials to strengthen and enhance the enforcement measures in this year and to conduct frequent raids against the illegal manufacturing, distributing and sale of ID liquor, duplicate IMFL, non duty paid IMFL and narcotics in the State.

The digitization of data of excise cases of last ten years is going on with the assistance of OCAC throughout the State to keep record of each and every accused person and to have coordination with the police, the Department stated.
