Abdur Rehman And Three Other Al-Qaeda Operatives Convicted By Delhi Court

New Delhi: A Delhi Court has convicted four Al-Qaeda operatives including Mohammed Abdur Rehman of Odisha under the UAPA. Abdur Rehman was arrested by a team of Delhi Police and Odisha Police in 2015 for his association with the terror group and conspiracy of terror activities in the country. The Patiala House Court convicted Mohd Asif, Mohd Abdul Rehman, Zafar Masood, and Abdul Sami under Sections 18 (Conspiracy for Terror Act) and 18B (Recruitment for Terror Act) of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or the UAPA.

The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on February 14th. The maximum sentence for the offences is life imprisonment. The Court also acquitted two co-accused Syed Mohd. Zeeshan Ali and Dr Sabeel Ahmad in the matter as the prosecution failed to prove the case against them.

According to the Delhi Police, Rehman ran a madrassa in Uttar Pradesh and was trying to radicalise local youth who enrolled there for terror activities. Rehman was arrested from Jagatpur in Cuttack in Odisha by the Delhi police. Rehman was suspected to have international links with outlawed terrorist organizations in Pakistan.
