Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Named Congress’s Lok Sabha Leader

New Delhi: Ending the impasse, the Congress on Tuesday named Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as leader of the party in the 17th Lok Sabha, media reports stated.

Chowdhury , a five-time MP from West Bengal, is the most senior among the 52 Congress candidates who won the just concluded Lok Sabha elections.

He currently represents the Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He has held the seat since 1999.

The decision came after party president Rahul Gandhi reportedly refused to accept the post which led to weeks of impasse.

K. Suresh, a seven-term MP from Kerala will be designated as Chief Whip, reports stated.

Mallikarjun Kharge was the Congress leader in the Lok Sabha and Jyotiraditya Scindia was the Chief Whip in the 16th Lok Sabha.
