Article 370: Extra Security Measures in Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has issued an advisory to all airports of the country to intensify security measures to avoid any untoward incident in the wake of the recent developments related to Jammu and Kashmir. The advisory is issued to the state governments, national and private airport operators and other parties. This assumes significance as it comes days before the country is going to celebrate its Independence Day.

According to the DG, BCAS, utmost precautions need to be taken by all the airports so that no untoward incident takes place during Independence Day celebrations.

“In view of the continuous threat to the civil aviation sector received from central security agencies, it is necessary to enhance the existing security measures being taken at all the civil aviation installations like airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, helipads flying schools, aviation training institutes,” the advisory reads.

With this, security measures have been tightened at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar. While the security clearance area, terminal premise and parking spaces are under strict vigil, all approaching vehicles will be subject to random security check. The BCAS had instructed the State police to carry out intensive frisking of all vehicles approaching the terminal building.

While security measures are tightened every year during the Independence Day and Republic Day, this time it assumes significance in view of the developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

While visitor’s entry will not be allowed to the airports between 10th August and 20th August, passengers have been requested to reach early to the airport for check in. According to the Bhubaneswar Airport authorities, additional armed security personnel have been deployed in the airport and surveillance measures have been enhanced.
