Manama: Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the long-serving Prime Minister of Bahrain, has passed away. He was 84.
Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died this morning at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the United States of America, reported the Bahrain News Agency
“By order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Royal Court mourns His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, who passed away this morning at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the United States of America”, the report stated.
The burial ceremony will take place after the repatriation of the body, and the funeral will be limited to a number of relatives, it added.
Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had served as the Prime Minister of Bahrain since 1970, taking office over a year before Bahrain’s independence on 15 August 1971.
He was the longest-serving Prime Minister of any government in the world.
