Bastra Upahar: Unique Initiative By BeMC For the Needy

Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation has yet again come out with a unique initiative for the needy and downtrodden by setting up the Bastra Upahar center. The free cloths center has been inaugurated by Member of Parliament Chandra Sekhar Sahu in the presence of MLA Bikram Panda, Collector Bijay Amruta Kulange, Commissioner Dr. Sidheshwar Baliram Bondar and other dignitaries.

The Bastra Upahar Center will help the needy get free cloths which are donated by the citizens of Berhampur. The Municipal Corporation has made arrangements for collecting donated cloths by the people of Berhampur. A number of shops have also been roped in who have agreed to donate cloths. The center was inaugurated on the eve of the Local Self Governance Day.

The donated clothes will be washed, stitched and ironed before being stored in the Bastra Upahar center. People who want to donate clothes can do so at the center set up at the Biju Patnaik Kalyana Mandap.

Speaking on the initiative, BeMC Commissioner Dr. Sidheshwar Baliram Bondar told Newsroomodisha.com that “We started this initiative after consulting many people regarding this. We will ensure that all needy get the cloths the need. Depending on the success, we will set few more centers like this”.
