Bargarh: Candidates of the three major political parties including BJD and opposition BJP and Congress – on Monday filed their nominations at the Sub-Collector’s office in Padmapur to contest Bijepur Assembly by-poll to be held on October 21.
Dillip Kumar Panda of Congress, Rita Sahu of BJD and Sanat Kumar Gartia of BJP arrived in the Sub-Collector’s office separately submitted their nomination papers before the Returning Officer-cum-Padmapur Sub Collector.
The candidates arrived near the Sub-Collector’s office in huge rallies accompanied by thousands of supporters. Adequate police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order.
While BJD has relied on Rita, who had won the seat in 2018 by-poll, the BJP has once again fielded Sanat, who had unsuccessfully contested against BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in the last election held in April this year.
The Congress changed its candidate by deciding to field Dillip as two candidates Pranay Sahu who contested the 2018 by-elections and Ripunath Seth who contested the 2019 election, emerged distant thirds by polling very less numbers of votes.
