Berhampur: With an aim to further improve cleanliness in silk city, Berhampur Municipal Corporation has added state-of-the-art cleaning machines, tools and cesspool vehicles to its existing equipments.
Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda today dedicated seven mechanized drain cleaning and septic tank cleaning machines, one ambulance with life support equipment and five portable Fogging machines in a program organised at the BeMC premises. Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, Mayor Sanghamitra Dalei, Commissioner Dr. Siddeshwar Baliram Bondar and all the Corporators of BeMC were present at the dedication ceremony.
In order to ensure safety and dignity of the Sanitation Workers and promote self-employment amongst them, Berhampur Municipal Corporation has facilitated Berhampur Swachhata Bahini – a group of 16 Women Sanitation Workers, for procuring mechanised drain and septic tank cleaning equipment through subsidised loans under the Swachhata Udyami Yojana of National Safai Karmachari Development Corporation.
Through this project, seven mechanised drain and septic tank cleaning equipment, three Drain Desilting Machines. One Cesspool Machine, two Jetting Machines and one Grabbing Machine have been procured. The total capital expenditure in the project stood at Rs 1.28 crore. Berhampur Municipal Corporation supported the beneficiaries with training, capacity building, project approval, equipment selection and loan approval process and to ensure financial sustainability of the intervention, it has also extended seven-year work assurance to them.
On this occasion, one state of the art Ambulance complete with life support equipment worth Rs 38 lakhs was also dedicated to the public. The newly procured five Portable Fogging Machines at a accost of Rs 3.84 lakhs will be used for spraying mosquito repellent liquid in 42 wards of Berhampur City.
