Berhampur: Bringing laurels to the State and Country, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has won the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation.
The BeMC bagged the prestigious award for its fecal sludge management model, which has been successfully implemented with the help of Mission Shakti groups.
“We are honoured and humbled to receive the prestigious International Guangzhou Award for Urban Innovation for Berhampur Municipal Corporation”, said BeMC Commissioner Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar.
The BeMC Commissioner expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his visionary leadership that has inspired the civic body to implement the scheme in partnership with the Mission Shakti Groups.
He also thanked the Housing and Urban Development Department and Mission Sakthi groups for making the success of the program.
The BeMC got the award for urban innovations from 273 initiatives among 60 countries and 175 cities.
The Guangzhou Award aims to recognise innovations in improving social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and regions and, in so doing, to advance the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens.
