Berhampur: The Berhampur Police has cracked a burglary case and arrested a person involved in the crime.
The accused has been identified as Soumyaranjan Padhi, who is the brother-in-law of Ajit Kumar Panda, a resident of Shardha Bali, 5th Street, Khodshingi in Berhampur area.
The police also seized two gold chains with locket, one diamond mangalasutra, one gold ring, cash worth Rs.76,290 and one gold deposit receipt from the accused.
Ajit Panda lives with his wife, mother-in-law and others. His brother-in-law Soumyaranjan Padhi came to live in his house. Soumairanjan Padhi is a B.Tech student previously worked as a hotel manager in Kolkata and Mumbai. After Corona, he was staying at her elder sister’s house.
He used to ask her elder sister for his expenses and also took out some loans. Because he had incurred some debt, he stole from his sister’s house and decided to settle the debt.
On the evening of November 4, when no one was at sister’s home, he broke the lock of his sister’s Godrej and stole a queens necklace, two gold chains, a diamond – encrusted Mangalsutra, a gold ring, and one lakh rupees and went to Bhubaneswar. There, at Unigold financial company he mortgaged the necklace and took a loan of Rs1,50,000. From that amount he repaid his loan and kept the rest of the amount and gold with him.
BNpur Police team received information from relevant sources and raided different places at Sergarh, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Last evening Padhi was detained from Bhubaneswar, during interrogation he accepted his guilt and deposited two gold chains, one gold ring, one diamond encrusted Mangalsutra and Rs.76290, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M in a press note.
