Berhampur: The interim bail plea of suspended Berhampur PWD engineer Binod Kumar Padhy was rejected on Tuesday.
The bail plea of Padhy, Superintending Engineer, Southern (R&B) Circle, Berhampur, was rejected by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on the ground of Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the State, sources said.
Earlier on March 18, the Odisha Government had placed the engineer under suspension for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
“Binod Kumar Padhy, Superintending Engineer, Southern (R&B) Circle, Berhampur is deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from 04.03.2020, the date of his detention in judicial custody in terms of rule-12(2) of the OCS (CC&A) Rules, 1962 and shall remain under suspension until further orders”, an official order said.
During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Padhy, S.E. shall be the Office of the Engineer-in-Chief (Civil) Odisha, Bhubaneswar and he shall not leave the headquarters without prior permission of the Engineer-in-Chief (Civil), it stated.
Earlier, an anti-corruption team led by Santanu Kumar Padhi, Vigilance Additional Superintendent of Police at Berhampur Division, conducted simultaneous raids on 12 difference places including Binod Padhy’s quarter, office room, parental house, a market complex near the Ganjam block office, a farm house in Khallikote, a dairy farm and business establishment at Dimiria and the houses of his relatives.
A case had been registered against the accused engineer and his wife for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 3, 95,99,453 beyond their known sources of income.
