Berhampur Police Busts Dismantling of Stolen Heavy Vehicles Racket, One Arrested 

Berhampur: Berhampur Police on Tuesday arrested a person involved in dismantling of stolen heavy vehicles and seized spare parts worth around Rs 40 lakh.

The accused has been identified as Samir Samal of Bijipur area of Berhampur.

Based on reliable inputs about dismantling of stolen heavy vehicles and cutting those into scraps, Golantahra Police conducted raid over a garage owned by Samir at Auto Nagar area in Haladiapadar on the outskirts of the city.

During the raid, police found huge number of spare parts which were dismantled for years without any documents and authority. These stolen heavy vehicles are from the different parts of the country. The garage owner could not produce any documents of those engines and the chassis found, the Police said.

In order to avoid identity of the real owners, the garage owner had tampered and scratched the numbers of the chassis and engines. The accused also could not produce any documents of the trucks found in his possession nor could provide the details of the ownership of those trucks, the Police stated.

During the raid, the police seized one white color Scorpio without number plate with chassis number tampered, one chassis of 12 wheeler with tampered chassis number; 10 number of engines of different heavy vehicles with no engine number; 30 Kate plates with 7Katas in each Kata plate; other dismantled heavy vehicle parts; 3 gas cylinders and a gas cutter. The value of seized items is around Rs 40 lakh.

The accused was arrested and forwarded to the court. Investigation of the case is underway to ascertain the involvement of other accused persons, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
