Kendrapada: The Bhitarakanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapada district will be open for visitors from today after three months. The National park was closed for visitors from May 1st till July 31st for Crocodile breeding season. The National Park officials have completed all preparations for the inflow of visitors. The thrust is on making the Park plastic free and the visitors have been barred from carrying any plastic bags inside it. Visitors are also being asked to maintain Covid-19 appropriate behavior.
Bhitarkanika is the second Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance, in the State after Chilika. The Odisha Government’s sustained conservation measures have made the site one of the best known wildlife sanctuaries in the country. Bhitarkanika is home to a great variety of wildlife including spotted deer, saltwater crocodiles, water monitors, pythons and Sambars. It also houses a large number of migratory birds during winter.
