Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district reopened for tourists today after remaining closed for three months due to the breeding season of crocodiles.
The national park recorded a record number of 103 nesting of saltwater crocodiles compared to 101 in the previous year, sources said.
Bhitarkanika authorities have made adequate arrangements for the visit of tourists to the park.
Arrangement have been made for entry to the park through Chandbali this year which is in addition to the rugular Khola and Gupti routes, the park authorities said.
The Bhitarkanika National Park is one of the major tourist destinations in Odisha registering arrival of over 50,000 visitors every year. Some of the major attractions at the park include boating, saltwater crocodiles, resident and migrant avian species as well as a huge variety of mangrove species.
The park had remained closed for tourists since May this year in view of of mating and nesting season of estuarine crocodiles.
