Bhubaneswar: In a huge setback to the Odisha BJP, former Chief Minister and nine times Member of Parliament from Koraput Lok Sabha Constituency Dr Giridhar Gamang has announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Speaking to reporters at a press conference, the former chief minister also said that his son Sisir Gamang will also resign from the BJP. They have sent their resignation letters to BJP President J P Nadda.
The resignation of Giridhar Gamang will be a big setback to the Odisha BJP which is struggling to set foot in south Odisha. He is a famous tribal leader from south Odisha ans has a big following in the undivided Koraput district. He has alleged that the state BJP leadership has not given the due to him since he joined the party in 2015. It is expected that the father-son duo will join the newly launched national political party Bharat Rashtra Samiti. They had met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao a few days back in Hyderabad and had wide ranging discussions regarding the prospects of the party in Odisha.
Another leader from Koraput, Jayaram Pangi has also announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata party yesterday. Pangi also announced that he will join the BRS on the 27th of this month at Hyderabad.
