Patna: The counting of votes for 243 assembly constituencies in Bihar is under way. The trends now show the NDA has moved ahead of the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, crossing the half-way mark of 122 seats needed to secure majority in Bihar Assembly. The NDA has gained a clear edge in the state and could be on course to retain power.
According to the latest Election Commission trends for all 243 seats, NDA is now leading on 126 seats. This includes BJP in 72 seats, the JD(U) in 47, and the Vikassheel Insaan Party in 7 seats. Meanwhile, the Opposition Grand Alliance is ahead in 102 seats.
The closely fought elections saw incumbent Nitish Kumar, who is heading the JD(U)-BJP combine, take on the Tejashwi Yadav-led Mahagathbandhan comprising RJD, Congress and Left Parties.
