Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his election campaign in poll-bound Bihar on Friday with three back-to-back rallies. PM Modi addressed these rallies in Dehri, Gaya and Bhagalpur. In these rallies, he emphasised on issues ranging from farm laws, the abolition of Article 370, Ram temple in Ayodhya, the law against triple talaq to military operations carried out by Indian Army at the borders.
PM Modi began his first Bihar poll rally by paying to Ram Vilas Paswan and Raghuvansh Prasad Singh. Addressing a rally in Dehri-on Sone (Sasaram), the Prime Minister said people have decided that those who have a history of making Bihar ‘Bimaru’ will not be allowed to return. ‘BIMARU’ is an acronym for Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. It was used to refer to the ‘poor economic conditions’ of these states.
“The people who once ruled Bihar are again looking at the developing state with their greedy eyes. But, Bihar must not forget who pushed them backward, that was the time when there was worsening law and order situation and corruption in the state.” He also lauded the efforts of Nitish Kumar government in handling the covid pandemic. “The decisions and steps taken by the state govt and people of Bihar against the pandemic are highly commendable,” he added. All reports and opinion polls are predicting that it’s going to be “Phir ek baar, NDA sarkar in Bihar,” PM Modi said at the election rally in Sasaram.
PM Modi launched a stinging attack the RJD-led opposition in Gaya by blaming the “anarchy and bad governance of the 1990s” for most of the ills that plagued the state even now. He said, “the “Mahagathbandhan” (Grand Alliance) was a “pitara” (basket) comprising elements wary of the “governments crackdown on anti-national activities”, and stressed that the state must vote to power the NDA led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar so that “Bihar does not fall ill (Bimar) again”.
“The state now has electricity. The days of lantern are over,” said Modi in a reference to the election symbol of of the Rashtriya Janata Dal founded and headed by Lalu Prasad.
In an attempt to showcase the Mahagathbandhan unity, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav addressed in their first joint rally today. Addressing in his first poll rally at Hisua in Nawada district, Rahul insisted that the Chinese army had indeed intruded into the Indian territory. “You ask any Army jawan, he will tell you that today the Chinese army is standing in the area which we use to patrol earlier. Our land has been snatched away from us,” he claimed.
“The question is, Modi ji, when will you throw out the Chinese soldiers sitting in our territory?” he asked.
The former party president also attacked the Centre over the migrant crisis triggered by the pandemic-induced lockdown, alleging when workers from Bihar were being “chased away” from other states the prime minister did nothing to help them.
Chief ministerial candidate for the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan Tejashwi Yadav further questioned why PM Modi and the Bihar government have been silent on jobs and industry.
“Bihar har cheez mai fissadi raaj kyun? (Why is Bihar the most backward state in the country?) For Ayushman Bharat, Centre didn’t give a single penny in the last financial year. Why have they woken up from their stupor now?
“PM is the chief of NITI Aayog, he should tell us why, according to its own report, Bihar is at the bottom in all aspects? Why didn’t he speak on this in his rallies?” Yadav said.
