Chatrapur: The Biju Shramik Samukhya (BSS), the trade union wing of ruling Biju Janata Dal, has further strengthened its base in Ganjam district as hundreds of trade union leaders joined the front here on Wednesday.
Over 400 members of Maa Dakshina Kali Transport Owners Association, Chatrapur have joined the BSS at a mega induction programme held at the premise of Shiv Kumar Patnaik Reading Room in Chatrapur.
Led by association’s president T. Chandra Skehar Rao and General Secretary Ahi Bhusan Sahu, all office-bears and members of the trade union joined the BSS.
BJD Organizational Secretary and Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das attended the programme as chief guest through video conferencing and welcomed the new members the BSS fold.
Dr. Gopabandhu Dash, OSD to CM Naveen Patnaik, also attended the programme as a guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dash said that the popularity of BJD is growing by leaps and bounds each passing day across the State. BJD supermo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is taking a lot of initiatives for the development of all sections of the society.
The Chief Minister has envisaged for a transformed Odisha and has been working relentlessly to make Odisha number one in the country, he said.
The Chief Minister has given utmost priority on the development of all sections of the society, especially the labors in the State. The CM stood exemplary for others by providing much-needed financial assistance package to the construction workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the soft-spoken former bureaucrat told the gathering.
He also appealed to the members of BSS to reach out to the people and sensitize about the Chief Minister’s people-centric development works.
The role of students, youths, women and BSS assumes significance for further strengthening the BJD at the village and Panchayat levels, Dr. Dash said while appealing the new BSS members to work dedicatedly for the party.
Ganjam District BJD President and Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (OBOCWWB) Chairman Dr. Ramesh Chandra Chyau Pattnaik, Rajya Sabha MP Subash Singh, Chatrapur MLA Subash Chandra Behera and other leaders welcomed the new members of BSS.
Before the start of the programme, the guests have paid floral tribute to the statue of legendary freedom fighter and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik at the Lower Bus Stand in Chatrapur.
