Biju Smruti Peetha at Puri Swargadwar to Be Dedicated for Service of People

Bhubaneswar: In a major development, the Odisha Government has decided to remove the Smruti Peetha (memorial) of legendary freedom fighter and late Chief Minister Biju Patnaik at Puri Swargadwar. 

The decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Lok Seva Bhawan here today for the makeover of the cremation ground in the pilgrim city.

Confirming this, BJD leader Sanjay Kumar Das Burma said that the Biju memorial will be removed from Swargadwar while the plaque will remain.

The Swargadwar will be completely dedicated for the service of people, he said.

The Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 5 crore in the 1st phase for development of Swargadwar.

“Biju Babu remains in the hearts of millions of Odia. Whatever remains there for memory of Biju Babu at Swargadwar, will be dedicated for the service of people of Odisha”, Naveen said.

Swargadwar is a holy place, said the CM urging people to cooperate for its renovation.

Earlier, Naveen dedicated Anand Bhavan, the ancestral house of Biju Patnaik in Cuttack to the State as a museum cum- learning center.
