Bhubaneswar: The bird population in Chilika, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon located in Odisha, has increased this year.
As many as 11,37,759 birds belonging to 187 species were enumerated this year compared to 11,31929 birds belonging to 184 species in 2023, according to the Forest Department.
The Nalabana island has recorded a total count of 3,47,280 birds this year compared to 3,42,897 in the previous year.
The bird census was carried out at five Forest ranges such as Balugaon, Chilika, Tangi, Satapada, and Rambha in Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam districts.
