BJD Demands Resignation of Excise Minister over Ganjam Hooch Tragedy

Bhubaneswar: The opposition Biju Janata Dal on Saturday demanded resignation of Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan over the hooch tragedy in Ganjam district.

The death toll in the hooch tragedy jumped to three, after one more victim from Chikiti block died while undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Opposition chief whip in the Assembly Pramila Mallik demanded that the Excise Minister should resign on moral grounds.

Raising the issue in the zero hour in the Assembly, the BJD MLA also asked the government to give a statement on the hooch tragedy.

She said that the BJP has come to the power by giving slogan liquor free Odisha. The government is now misleading the people of the State. After the today’s incident, the Excise Minister should resign on moral grounds, Mallik said.
