New Delhi: Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal MP Sasmit Patra has given Zero Hour Notice for discussion on “need to declare the states hit by major natural calamities as special focus states.”
The BJD MP gave the notice in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday demanding ‘Special Focus States’ with benefits of the special category status for a specified period for the states such as Odisha ravaged by major natural disasters.
Patra also demanded special category status for Odisha saying that the unique geo-climatic conditions of the state make it vulnerable to multiple and frequent natural disasters.
Odisha faces one or the other disaster like flood, cyclone or drought every year, the BJD MP said.
Special focus state status will help to reconstruct infrastructure and to restore livelihoods, he added.
