BJD Strongly Condemns Burning of Biju Patnaik’s Statue in Patnagarh; Questions Govt’s Silence

Bhubaneswar: Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday strongly condemned the burning of a statue of legendary freedom fighter and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik in Patnagarh, questioning the silence of the state government over the incident.

The BJD said that the heinous and despicable act has deeply hurt the sentiments of the 4.5 crore people of Odisha.

In a press conference held at Sankha Bhawan, the senior BJD leaders said that Biju Babu is above the political affiliation; he is the symbol of Odia pride and identity. Such acts of vandalism are an insult to his legacy and the values he stood for. No amount of condemnation is enough for this outrage, they said.

The BJD has strongly criticized the state government’s silence over the incident, raising concerns about its commitment in maintaining law and order.

Describing Biju Patnaik as a revered freedom fighter and visionary leader, the BJD stated that the incident reflects a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.

Disrespect towards the son of Odisha will not be tolerated. The BJP government must wake up and ensure such incidents are not repeated,” the leaders demanded.

The BJD alleged there is a deliberate conspiracy to erase Biju Patnaik’s legacy, citing the removal of his name from various schemes and the scrapping of Panchayati Raj Diwas as part of a broader effort to diminish his contributions.
The BJD has demanded immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators.
