Bhubaneswar: A joint squad of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today undertook a surprise visit to different food stalls and hotels and seized illegal polythene and stale food items. The team raided hotels for checking the quality of food and use of unauthorized polythene bags, The plastic enforcement team and food security team members went to different food stalls and hotels in Kolathia and SUM Hospital areas under the South West Zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The joint visit of the food safety and polythene enforcement teams was supported by BMC’s central enforcement Squad and Police that destroyed about fifty kilograms of stale and unhygienic food, sweets and seized 12 kilograms of polythene.
Twelve numbers of business units were fined Rs 22,000 for selling unhygienic food items and using banned polythene carry bags. Adhering Food Safety And Standards Act, 2006 and Plastic Waste Management Rule 2016, team BMC is regularly doing awareness and field visits.
