Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is contemplating to bring in a set of guidelines for pet animals in the capital city. This comes after the city witnessed a bizarre incident wherein a child was mauled down by a pet dog in Infocity area a few days back. Also, the rescue of about forty foreign breed dogs from an illegal breeding center in Bhubaneswar today has compelled the civic authority to bring in regulations in this regard.
The BMC will soon introduce special teams that will inspect the pet animals under its jurisdiction.
The guidelines will call for the owners of the pet animals to voluntarily share information about the animals with the civic body so that it can keep a record of them and if necessary also take care of them and attend promptly to the complaints if any received, as per BMC sources.
The civic body also appealed pet owners to make good living arrangements in their houses for their animals and warned of action who would violate the guidelines.
The BMC would study the guidelines in various cities and Animal Welfare Board in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Cochin.
