Bolangir: In a major economic fraud, a businessman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly committing Goods and Services Tax (GST) scam by using fake bills to claim input tax credit (ITC) worth Rs 12.84 crore.
The accused Tirthankar Patel is the owner of Sai International Mines & Minerals, evaded the tax through fake bills of purchase of items worth Rs 84.68 crore and sale of items amounting Rs 84.71 crore without purchasing or selling anything, sources said.
He was produced before the court of SDJM, Titlagarh and sent to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
