London: Boris Johnson is set to be the next UK’s next Prime Minister after he won the Conservative leadership contest over rival Jeremy Hunt.
Johnson, the former UK foreign minister and former mayor of London, was elected Leader of the Conservative Party on July 23.
He will assume office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on 24 July 2019, after the resignation of incumbent Prime Minister Theresa May.
Johnson, a vocal proponent of Brexit, took 92,153 votes to Hunt’s 46,656, a margin interpreted as mandate to shape his cabinet around influential loyalists.
