Puri: A team of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) has come forward to help the helpless senior citizen Bharat Bhusan of Puri district.
Due to timely intervention of the team, Bharat Bhusan has been provided proper treatment.
60-year-old Bharat Bhusan, who is from Grhpadanpur village under Nimapada block of Puri district, remained unmarried throughout his life, breaking away from the normal way of life.
Alone, he made a half-broken house his shelter. About one month ago, he developed an ulcer on his right leg. Due to the lack of treatment, the ulcer gradually spread to other parts of the foot and became large. His feet and legs began to swell. The pain increased to such an extent that Bharat Bhusan could not find anywhere else to go and remained alone in that house.
On knowing condition of Bharat Bhusan from media reports on February 20, the BSKY team started working on a mission mode along with the Puri district administration to help him.
On the direction of the District Chief Medical and Public Health Officer, a special health team went to his village on the morning of February 21. The preliminary treatment and dressing of his wounds were done in his house on the same day. The team apprised the senior citizens about the healthcare benefits of BSKY.
Bharat Bhusan was admitted in the community health centre Nimapara. Medical examinations indicated that he had a severely infected ulcer in his right leg. Considering the complication of the infection, the senior citizen was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for better treatment. He was also provided 108 ambulance services free of cost for transportation to SCB. However, he was not ready to get admitted in SCB and returned to his village under some pretexts.
Then, the BSKY team went to his village and consulted him that his treatment would be done in the district headquarter hospital Puri. By virtue of the compassionate counselling, Bharat agreed to move to Puri, and the BSKY team referred him to DHH Puri.
Bharat Bhusan is now treated in the male surgical ward of DHH, Puri with Bed No-229. He is under the supervision of a Specialist surgeon at the hospital. Sahaya volunteers have also come forward for assistance of Bharat Bhusan. He has shown good improvement in his health. The doctors hope that Bharat Bhusan would be cured after some days.
