CBI Court Acquits Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti in Babri Masjid Demolition Case

Lucknow: In a significant development, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here today acquitted all accused in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Kalyan Singh, Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi Rithambara were among the accused.

In his verdict, CBI judge SK Yadav said that there was not enough evidence to prove a criminal conspiracy.

The Supreme Court had set August 31 as the deadline for the CBI court to deliver the verdict in the matter. However, this was extended it by a month.

The 16th century Babri Masjid was allegedly demolished in December 1992 by “kar sevaks” who claimed that the mosque in Ayodhya was built on the site of an ancient Ram temple.
