Centre Praises Odisha Govt for Successfully Handling of Cyclone Fani

New Delhi: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai today highly appreciated the Odisha government for its efforts in evacuating more than 15, 57,000 people to safer places before Cyclone Fani.

The Union Minister thanked the Odisha government, United Nations Organization (UNO), many other countries and experts in the field for their proper coordinated efforts for accurate forecasting and warning on natural disasters and the immediate massive evacuation of over 15, 57,000 people to safer places.

Replying to a question by BJP MP Jual Oram on Cyclone Fani during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Rai thanked the Prime Minister and the Home Affairs Minister for their 24×7 alertness and coordinated efforts at the time of natural calamities as a team.

The Minister said that it was all possible due to the mutual cooperation between the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, NDRF teams and the States that a calamity like the 1999 cyclone in which 10,000 people were killed could be avoided.
