Bhubaneswar: The Union Sports Ministry has decided to set up Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCE) at eight places in the country, including Odisha’s Kalinga Stadium in the state capital.
The Sports Ministry said that one KISCE would be identified in every State for grassroots development of sports and infrastructure.
In the first phase of the scheme, the state-owned facilities will be upgraded in eight states – Odisha, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and the northeast states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The Ministry said the process of selection and shortlisting of venues to be developed into world-class facilities began in October 2019 but only 15 proposals were received for the same.
