Chandrayaan 2 Launch: Gslv Mk-Iii Lift-Off Successful, All Parameters Normal

Hyderabad: Isro’s ‘Bahubali’ GSLV-Mk III with Chandrayaan-2 lifts off successfully  at 2.43 pm today.

The rocket carrying the prestigious probe will be ignited at 2.43 pm from the Satish Dhawan space station.

Isro’s Chandrayaan-2, the Rs 978 crore mission, is seeking to explore the unchartered Lunar south pole. .

The launch rehearsal has been done by the scientists and engineers of the ISRO at Sriharikota on Sunday.

All the parameters during the rehearsal were found to be normal. Speaking to reporters in Chennai yesterday, ISRO chairman Dr Sivan said, that all preparatory arrangements have been put in place for the mission, the space agency said.

Originally Chandrayaan-2 was planned to be launched on the 15th of this month. However, a technical snag was detected less than an hour before its scheduled lift-off, forcing the mission to be halted.

The success of Chandrayaan 2 mission has made India the fourth country after the US, Russia and China to pull off a soft landing on the moon.

The mission was stopped 56 minutes and 24 seconds before its launch last Monday after a technical snag was discovered in the unmanned launch vehicle system.

A mission by China landed in the northernmost part, followed by Russia’s Luna missions. Most of the American lunar landings, including Apollo missions, were in the Moon’s equatorial region.
