Chhatar Jatra Concludes Amidst Religious Fervour and Covid Guidelines

Bhawanipatna: The famous Chhatar Jatra of goddess Manikeswar in Bhawanipatna has concluded amidst Covid-19 restrictions with a very low presence of devotees. The annual festivities conclude when the Asthami tithi ends and Navami begins. Chhatar Jatra is celebrated on 9th day of Ashwini Month every year in Bhawanipatna. It’s one of the unique festivals like Rath Jatra where a prime deity visits it’s devotees. Unlike chariot, a person holds the manifested Idol of Maa Manikeswari. The Jatra commences from Jenakhal, at the place where initial worship is done, to Manikeswari Temple by walking around about 4 kilometers.

Dozens of Ghant Dal participate in the festival along with several others dressed themselves with traditional costumes of the tribals.

The Chhatar of deity Manikeshwari was taken in a small procession or Jatra of about 100 persons in the wee hours today as the district administration imposed Section 144 in the vicinity to avoid animal sacrifices. About ten platoons of forces were deployed by the police administration.
