Ladakh: A Chinese soldier was caught by Indian forces in Ladakh after he strayed across the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the army said on Monday. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier, identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long, was caught in the Chumar-Demchok area in Ladhakh.
In a statement, the Indian Army said, “A PLA soldier identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long was apprehended in the Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh on 19 October 2020 after he had strayed across the LAC.” The Indian Army added that it received a request about the whereabouts of the missing soldier from the PLA.
As per established protocols, he will be returned to Chinese officials at the Chushul–Moldo meeting point after completion of formalities, the statement added.
The soldier has been provided medical assistance, including oxygen. He was also given food and warm clothes for protection against the vagaries of extreme altitude and harsh climatic conditions.
This comes amid the border tussle between India and China in the region. Both armies have deployed over 50,000 troops each along the LAC in eastern Ladakh, including in Demchok sector, following escalation of the five-month-long military standoff that began in early May.
