Chit Fund Probe Panel MM Das Commission submits 7th Report to Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Justice MM Das Commission, probing the multi-thousand-crore chit fund scam, submitted its seventh interim report to the State Government today.

The Commission’s Secretary handed over its report to Home department.

According to some reports, 4,97,844 depositors have been identified while at least 1,931 micro small depositors have been refunded and 421 chit fund companies have been identified.

The State Government formed the commission in July 2013 to probe into the chit fund scam in the State.

In February 2015, the Government appointed retired Justice Madan Mohan Das as the Commission of Inquiry after the death of Justice RK Patra, who was initially probing the mega scam.

Notably, the Odisha Government extended the tenure of Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry by another six months in February this year.
