Civil Services Day: The Sturdy Steel Frame That Is Fighting The Pandemic To Keep India Safe

Bhubaneswar: The country is today going through one of its most difficult health crisis in its history. The Covid-19 pandemic has engulfed the country with its second wave. Each and every person of this country is impacted with this catastrophe. At this crucial juncture, the fight against the disease is being fought led by the Executive – an important part of the Government. As part of this Executive, the numerous Civil Services officers are making their day and night one and serving the people of the country. They are today at the front of the fight against Covid-19.

Along with the various other Covid warriors such as the Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare professionals and the Police forces, the Civil servants are today playing an important role in securing the country. They have turned themselves today in the real steel frame that Sardar Patel mentioned in one of his speeches.

“It will be your bounden duty to treat the common men in India as your own, or to put it correctly, to feel yourself to be one of them and amongst them, and you will have to learn not to despise or to disregard them. In other words, you will have to adopt yourselves to democratic ways of administration”

As always, be it developing India and its people to making India proud in the international arena, the Civil Services have always been in the blood of the country’s administration. Each and every crucial aspect of the governance and policy making in the country is planned and executed by them and they are standing as a shield when it comes to the rescue of the common man from difficulties. They have the power, they have the mettle. With the change in the time, the role played by them has also changed.

21st April is observed as the Civil Service Day in India by all Civil Services to rededicate and recommit themselves to the cause of the people. It was on this day in 1947 that the first Home Minister of the Republic of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel addressed the Administrative Services Officers probationers of at Delhi’s Metcalf House. Sardar Patel referred to the civil servants as the “Steel Frame of India”.

Today as we dedicate this day to them, let us be proud for their service in making India the most beautiful country in the world.
