CM Announces Hike in Remuneration and Other Benefits of Panchayati Raj Representatives

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has today approved an increase in the remuneration and other benefits of the Panchayati Raj representatives of the state.

It is worth mentioning here that the PR representatives had met 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian during his visit to various districts and requested regarding the increase.
According to the decision, the Zilla Parishad President will get a monthly remuneration of Rs 30,000 rupees instead of Rs 9,380 rupees they were getting earlier. Their daily allowance and the Sitting fee have also been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 600. The remuneration of Zilla Parishad Vice-President has been increased from Rs 7,040 to Rs 20,000 and their DA and Sitting allowance has also been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 600. The ZP members, who were getting Rs 3,530, will now Rs 10,000 monthly remuneration and their daily allowance and sitting fees has also been hiked from Rs 300 to Rs 600.

Similarly, Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons, who were getting Rs.3530, will now get Rs 15,000. Panchayat Samiti vice-chairpersons who were getting Rs 2350, will now get Rs 7500. The remuneration of Panchayat Samiti members has also been hiked from Rs 2350 to Rs 7500. Similarly, Sarpanches will now get Rs 10,000 as remuneration. Naib Sarpanches will now get Rs 4,000 while they were getting Rs 940 earlier.

The daily allowance and sitting fees of Panchayat Samiti Chairmen, Deputy Chairman, Panchayat Samiti members, Sarpanch, Naib Sarpanch and Ward members has been increased from Rs.240 to Rs.480.

It is worth mentioning here that earlier, Rs 79.88 crore rupees was spent on remuneration and allowances of Panchayati Raj representatives. After the latest hike, the government will bear an additional cost of Rs.162.68 crore for this.

Apart from this, in case of death of any Panchayati Raj representatives during tenure, a sum of Rs. 2 lakhs will be given as compensation. Apart from this, Rs 2 lakh will be given in case of complete disability (Irrecoverable Loss of both eyes, hands and feet). Similarly, in case of partial disability (Irrecoverable Loss of one eye, one hand or one leg) an assistance of Rs. 1 lakh will be given.
