Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) for winning the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovations.
Berhampur, which is one of the major cities in Odisha, received the prestigous award for promoting sustainable environment conservation and women empowerment through Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM).

The BeMC got the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovations from 273 initiatives among 60 Countries and 175 Cities, informed BeMC Commissioner Dr Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar on Monday.
The Guangzhou Award aims to recognize innovation in improving social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and regions and, in so doing, to advance the prosperity and quality of life of their citizens.
A total of 273 initiatives from 175 cities and local governments in 60 countries and regions applied for the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation, which fully demonstrated global cities’ determination to adhere to exchanges and cooperation under the epidemic.
