Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday launched the comprehensive Santali-Odia-English Dictionary, compiled by Academy of Tribal Language and Culture (ATLC) under the ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Class Welfare Department.
Along with the dictionary, the Chief Minister also released 21 primers for primary students in Kui, Kuvi, Saora, Munda and Gondi languages.
This 3-volume dictionary was compiled by renowned Santali litterateur Srijukta Chaitanya Prasad Majhi and was edited by an editorial board. The Primers have been developed by the SCSTRTI under Samhati programme under the guidance of Dr Paramananda Patel.
The Chief Minister heaped praises on Santali litterateurs, researchers and team ATLC for this effort and addressed the representatives of tribal communities and officials of the department.
He said this dictionary would enrich the Santali language and create interest among others to learn Santali language. The department has been continuously working towards bringing out dictionaries in other tribal languages.
On this occasion Jagannath Saraka, minister, SSDMBCW Department highlighted about the efforts put by the state government for the preservation and propagation of tribal language, literature and culture.
Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, Roopa Roshan Sahoo, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of SSDMBCW Department and Indramani Tripathy, Director, SCSTRTI and other officials of the department were present in the event.
