CM Naveen to Lay Foundation Stone of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Today

Bhubaneswar: Taking another step forward towards fulfilling the dreams of the people of Odisha for a greener and smarter tomorrow with most modern transport system, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will today lay the foundation for the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project. Being implemented under the 5T Initiatives, the 26 kilometers long project will connect Bhubaneswar Airport with Trisulia in Cuttack in the first phase. The project is expected to be completed in four years and entails an expenditure of more than Rs 6000 crore that will be fully funded by the State Government.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation of the Metro Project at Ratagada Nuasahi, Trisulia on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar connecting Cuttack. As per the schedule, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will first garland the statue of his father and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik at the Airport, and proceed to the function venue in a mega road show. Grand thanks giving and felicitation programs are scheduled at different junctions of the city through which the Chief Minister’s road show will move. According to sources, thousands of people will attend the road show and offer gratitude to the Chief Minister for the historic project. The road show will start from the Airport and move through Capital Hospital Sqauare, Sastri Nagar, Jayadev Vihar, Xavier Square, Patia, Damana, KIIT Square, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan, and Baranga till Trisulia.

The Chief Minister is also scheduled to interact with people at various places enroute to Trisulia. He will interact with people near Capital Hospital Square, 120 Infantry Battalion, Jayadev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Indian Oil Square, Patia, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar and Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park Square, Barang Square and Phulapokhari. Naveen will also address a public gathering at Trisulia.

All arrangements have been made by the District administration for the Foundation Stone Laying program of the project and the Commissionerate Police has also chalked out a detailed security arrangement for the Chief Minister’s road show. CM Naveen had announced about this ambitious project on the occasion of Utkal Dibas last year.

Earlier last year, after reviewing the Project, Naveen had said “Reviewed the status of Phase-1 of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project which is going to be taken up under our 5T initiative. It is going to be a major landmark project for Odisha and with this, Bhubaneswar will join the select cities in the country with a metro rail system. This project will further strengthen the public transport in the city and spur economic growth. Bhubaneswar has been recognised for various urban projects and is emerging as a city with an enhanced quality of life. I am sure this mega project will make Bhubaneswar a top liveable city in the country.”
