Bhubaneswar: After Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called for strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols, the Odisha Police went tough against the violators.
On the first day of the special COVID enforcement drive, the State Police acted against as many as 9400 violators of mask usage and social distancing rules and collected fine of Rs. 25,07,900 in last 24 hours.
136 platoon force have been engaged in the entire State to intensify Covid enforcement measures.
District SsP/ DCsP and senior officers are leading the drive.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the State and urged the police department to conduct a 10-day drive for strict enforcement of COVID-19 safety protocols.
“We have been able to successfully control the first wave of COVID-19 in spite of a challenging situation when the nature of the virus was unknown. We are now battle hardened and I am sure we will be able to successfully tackle this resurgence of the virus infection,” Naveen said.
“We have to enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols strictly to slow down the spread of the virus. Director General of Police is directed to deploy the police personnel in large numbers across the State in a 10-day drive to strictly enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols as notified,” the CM told the officials.
