Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has evacuated about one lakh people staying in the coastal areas to safer places in view of the heavy rains caused due to the impact of Cyclone Amphan.
The coastal districts, especially Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Balasore have been experiencing rains and wind due to the impact of Amphan since the evening of Tuesday.
As Cyclone Amphan is expected to make landfall between West Bengal and Bangladesh over the Sunderbans, it is expected that the coastal districts will get affected most.
Speaking to media persons, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy said that ODRAF and NDRF Teams have been positioned in all vulnerable areas.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the situation with the district collectors and stressed on zero causality approach.
The focus of the administration is on shifting of people from vulnerable areas and clearing of roads in case of tree falling incidents.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including SRC Pradeep Jena, I& PR Secretary Sanjay Singh, IT Secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra and Sports Secretary Vishal Dev among others.
