Bhubaneswar: Even as the state government is taking all necessary steps to confront the situation arising out of Cyclone FANI, the Met department has said that it will cross Odisha coast in the afternoon of 3rd May. At present the surface wind speed of Cyclone FANI is recorded at 180 to 190 km gusting to 200o kilometers. It’s movement by today noon will be towards north-east wards. After which it will recurve and move North Eastward. It is expected to cross Odisha coast on the afternoon f 3rd May between Goplalpur and Chandbali, said H R Biswas, Director, Meteriolocal Center,Bhubaneswar.
The Cyclone FANI may cross the Odisha coast with a speed of 175 to 185 kilometers speed gusting to 195 and 205 kilometers. With this all 11 coastal districts of the state are expected to get affected severely. The interior districts are also going to experience torrential rains. Very to very heavy rainfall warning has been issued in all districts The rains will be accompanied by strong winds with speeds going upto 200 kmph. The MET department has also issued warning for storm surge in seas as the water waves can raise over 1.5 meter high. The ports in the state have been given DW-2 warning. Fishermen of the state have been requested not to venture into the sea and the remaining fishermen in the seas are advised to return to coast by today evening. Many places in the state are expected to get rains in excess of 20 centimeters.
